What Are Finger Waves?

In fact, finger waves are a method of setting hair by dampening with water or wave solution and forming waves or curls with the fingers and a comb. And it was popular in the 1920s and early 1930s and again in the late 1990s in North America and Europe.

For wig lovers or those people who are suffering from hair loss, you can choose some high-quality human hair wigs to create these finger waves.

The HD lace wigs are all made of 100% virgin human hair so that they can be dyed, permed, bleached, highlighted, straightened, or styled as your own hair according to your need.

The honey blonde wigs can bring you the perfect look for daily life, wedding, dating, theme party, cosplay, church, school, shopping and any other formal and special occasions, thus making you more confident and charming.

How To Do Finger Waves For Short Hair

When your hair is short, this is a very easy style to achieve.

What You Will Need:

Hair Gel;

High-quality Shampoo And Conditioner;

Blow Dryer Or A Hooded Dryer (optional, if you want to set your hair in place quickly and prevent frizz, we recommend you use one).

A Rat Tail Comb;

Step 1

First of all, wash and condition the hair using high-quality shampoo and conditioner. After the hair has been washed, gently towel dry and create a dramatic side part. Only when the hair is hydrated, it tends to have more flexibility and elasticity, which is ideal for finger waves.

Step 2

Apply a quarter-size amount of mousses throughout the wet hair and comb through well. If it is possible, please mix the oil with the gel, which will give the hair more flexibility and prevents the gel from flaking.

Step 3

Use a rat tail comb to comb the hair straight down on both sides of the part. To create finger waves, hold the comb horizontally against the head so the teeth of the comb are touching the scalp, and then place one finger on the parting and drag the comb downwards and toward the forehead until begin to see a ridge form.

Step 4

Slide your finger below the new hair ridge and move the comb in the opposite way to form a ridge in the other direction. Keep following that pattern all the way down and around the hair to form a finger wave.

Step 5

After finishing all finger waves, don't forget to blow dry the hair lightly with a blow dryer or a diffuser to keep the style from blowing out of shape.

Step 6

To finish, mist the hair with hair gel for a light shine and silky finish.

How To Do Finger Waves For Long Hair

Although finger waves are traditionally worn with short hair, vintage finger waves look fantastic when paired with long hair. In addition, it is easy to achieve and gentle on your hair as it doesn’t require any heat styling. However, it will take you a little time and patience.

First of all, start with damp hair and then liberally add hair gel to hold the hair. Once your hair is prepared, clip your hair where you would like your first curl to begin, then use a fine comb to push your hair up to this clip for a wave.

Once the wave is positioned correctly, continue to hold it in place with another clamp and repeat the process until you have a head full of hair clips. Wait several hours until your hair is completely dry then remove these clips. In the end, you can spray some hair spray to hair for a more lasting effect.

How Long Do Finger Waves Last?

Finger waves can last up to four to five days. The secret to making finger waves last is to gently spray the workable hair gel to your hair. At the same time, you had better press each wave in between your fingers as you spray the hair gel, which helps effectively keep the C-shape wave in place.

How Do You Maintain Finger Waves?

Hair gel will help to maintain your finger waves. And it's also important to wrap your hair at night with a silk hair wrap, which helps to maintain the style, lock in moisture and prevent frizz.

How Do You Remove Finger Waves?

The best way to remove finger waves is to use shampoo and conditioner to wash your hair to ensure all product is completely washed out. If you're bored of your finger waves but still go for a look with a bit of texture, you could use a brush to gently brush the waves out to create a soft beach wave look after wearing your finger waves for three or four days.
