Winter is quickly approaching and what that means for many Black women is that they’re looking for their next protective hairstyle. When it comes to protecting your hair during the warm months there are so many options and it truly depends on your lifestyle, desired maintenance level, personal hair philosophy, and budget. Now if you’re a fan of natural styles then you may opt for box braids, faux locks, or crochet styles. However, if you like traditional hair extensions then you may consider wearing a sew-in or a wig, and more specifically, a frontal sews-in or a full lace wig.
This is the latest wigs in virgin hair extension and weaves trend. A frontal is a hairpiece that encloses your head. Similar to a closure, but different in that a frontal covers the entire front of your head/hairline. With a frontal, you can pull your hair into a high bun or ponytail with no problem and with it looking amazingly natural, like your real hair. Whereas you may be apprehensive about showing your edges, a frontal covers them and gives you a hairline (see the photo ).
The simple answer is: it depends. Frontals are for people who don’t have edges, they're not really for people who have full edges because it’s a substitute. Notice I said FULL, so if you have edges, and still want to try a frontal, you can and with great results. I definitely suggest frontals, they're the only things I wear. But frontals are a lot of work. Oftentimes, people will get a frontal install thinking that it is similar to a lace closure in the sense of easy maintenance, but this is very untrue. If you are one that goes for regular hair appointments (meaning every 2-3 weeks even with a sew-in install), then yes, you should try a frontal. If you’re also someone that doesn’t live a very active lifestyle and doesn’t sweat much, you should get a frontal.
But if you’re one to perspire often, or in other words, SWEAT, then a frontal is probably not the best investment for you to make.
Lace frontal wig comes with many benefits that include style and ease of use. But it’s a little expensive for someone, you may be wondering: how can I make a lace frontal by myself? Of course, here is a video of how TO DIY a curly frontal. Hope you can enjoy it!
A lace frontal is very dynamic and allows you to really play with your style. Lace frontals use lace that falls naturally over the top of your forehead, giving the appearance of a hairline and smoothing the boundary between the wig and skin. But even this amount of lace gives front lace wigs quite a bit of versatility. This allows for the lace front closure to cover the neckline with a natural look, while still looking completely natural.
