The Art of Choosing the Right Wig
Wig Materials Matter: Before you begin the dyeing process, selecting the right type of wig is crucial. Human hair wigs are the best choice for coloring, as they can be dyed just like your natural hair. Synthetic wigs, on the other hand, don't absorb hair dye well, so steer clear of them if you're looking for a color change.
Choosing the Right Tools
1. Hair Dye: Opt for a hair dye color that is darker than your hair unit. You can only darken a human hair wig since working with bleach can be tricky and can risk compromising the human hair unit. If you want to dye your unit a light color, opt for a blonde wig as your base. If you would like to dye your hair a darker color opt for a brown or even black wig unit.
2. Developer: We recommend using a 20-volume developer as it is enough to darken the wig 1-2 shades.
3. Applicator Brush and Bowl: These tools will help you apply the dye evenly to your wig.
4. Plastic or Vinyl Gloves: Protect your hands from staining and chemical exposure by wearing gloves throughout the process.
5. Foil and Clips: If you're going for a multi-color look, foil and clips will be handy for sectioning and highlighting your wig.
6. Shampoo and Conditioner: Opt for sulfate-free products to maintain the wig's quality.
The Dyeing Process
Prep the Wig: Ensure an even application by combing and detangling the wig. If it's dirty, wash it and let it dry completely.
Mix the Dye: Follow package instructions to blend dye and developer in a bowl until smooth.
Section the Wig: Use clips to divide the wig for even dye application.
