How to Dye Your Hair Black at Home

Last updated Sep 27, 2023

If you want a hair color that will go with all your outfits and never go out of style, yes, it's black hair. Fierce, sexy, shiny and gorgeous, blacks are on trend all year round and will never go out of style. And you can get black hair at home. So how do you dye your hair black at home?

What is black hair?

What is black hair?

Black hair is the first choice for many people when they don't know what hair color to dye. There is no doubt that this color is natural and eye-catching. Black comes in a variety of shades to suit all skin tones and hair types.

Also available in multidimensional color depths, black makes everyone's hair look thicker and healthier! If you want to add colored highlights to your black hair it will also look great. And no matter what your style, black hair goes with everything, so there's bound to be a color that works for you.

Can I dye my hair black at home?

When it's hot, you can dye your hair black at home. But black hair dye may have some effect on your subsequent dyeing of other lighter hair colors, so you need to be prepared.

If you have brown hair or are black yourself, black hair dye can add shine and brightness to your hair. Be sure to use enough hair dye to cover your entire hair, and if you have long hair, you may need more than one box of dye.

If your hair is blonde and light, it may take a few applications to achieve the depth of color. If you have lighter roots, maintenance of this color is important.

What do I need to color my hair black at home?

What do I need to color my hair black at home?

●A good clarifying shampoo
●A set of hair-coloring tools
●A hairdresser's cape, or old clothes you don't want to prepare to protect your clothes
●Barrier cream to keep the color from getting on your skin
●A wide-tooth comb to separate your hair and comb through the dye
●A shampoo that does not contain color
●A conditioner that doesn't affect the color
●A heat protection spray to protect your color before it dries
●And your black hair dye!

Step 1

Change into an old T-shirt or use a hair dye cape on your body to prevent the black dye from damaging your favorite clothes.

Step 2

Get out your black hair dye. Mix your dye. Put on a pair of plastic gloves, which are usually given in the box you purchased the hair dye in. Follow the instructions to mix the developer and dye using the dye brush provided. Then stir so that the dye and developer are well mixed.

Step 3

Apply petroleum jelly or barrier cream to the skin closest to the hairline. This creates a barrier between the dye and your skin, and you can simply wipe the hair dye off your skin when you're done, protecting your skin and preventing the dye from staining.

Step 4

Apply the hair dye to your hair. Use the brush provided to apply the dye to your hair, starting at the roots and working your way down to the ends. You can treat your hair layer by layer, or you can apply the dye to your entire head of hair at once.

It depends on your habits and how much hair you have, just make sure all your hair is evenly colored. You can massage the dye into the hair with gloved fingers, which will allow the hair to coat and soak in more evenly. Do this to the entire head, from the roots to the tips.

Step 5

Allow the dye to remain in the hair for as long as the hair dye indicates. You can wear a shower cap to prevent it from touching and staining anything, and also to allow the hair to dye better.

If you have particularly stubborn gray or different-colored roots that need to be covered, you can leave the dye in for an extra 10 minutes to make sure it really works. Note: If you feel any burning or itching, rinse it out straight away.

Step 6

Wash out the dye. The time has come and now you can wash the dye out. Rinse your hair with warm water in the shower or over the sink until the water is completely clear - this may take a while! If you see a lot of colors rinsed out, don't worry, it's all part of the process. Wash twice more with shampoo to remove all traces of color, then apply conditioner.

Step 7

We recommend that you towel dry your hair or let it air dry naturally, although you can also use a hair dryer. Before using it, use a hair heat protection spray to protect your color. And make sure you do this every time you blow dry your hair or use heated styling products from now on.
